LIFE SPIRAL
God’s Vision For The Rest of Your Life: The Life Spiral
“It is in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for… part of the overall purpose He is working out in everything and everyone.” – Ephesians 1:11 (Mes)
The Bible teaches that our purpose is found in Christ, who has a universal plan for the universe and a cosmic purpose for history, with each of us fitting into His grand scheme. “Everything got started in Him and finds its purpose in Him.” We are made by and for God, and life won’t make sense until we understand this.
Created to last forever, our earthly life is a brief preparation for eternity. Here, we live up to 100 years, but eternity is far longer. Life on earth is a warm-up for the real, eternal life, where we practice what we will do forever. The Bible outlines five purposes for our lives to guide this preparation.
These five purposes are part of our Life Spiral; you never graduate from them. God may guide you to focus on a different purpose for a season, revisiting the second or fourth purpose as needed. Our best days are ahead, and we can’t wait to see all the ways God will change lives in the years to come!
FIVE PURPOSES
Encounter (Magnify):
God planned me for His pleasure. “You God created everything, and it is for Your pleasure that they exist and were created!” – Revelation 4:11b (NLT)
The 1st purpose of life is to know and love God.
Engage (Membership):
God formed me for His family. “God’s unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ.” – Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)
The 2nd purpose of life is to learn to love others.
Equip (Maturity):
God created me to become like Christ. “From the very beginning God decided that those who came to Him–and all along He knew who would–should become like His Son.” – Romans 8:29 (LB)
The 3rd purpose of life is to grow up spiritually.
Empower (Ministry):
God shaped me to serve Him. “God made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which He planned in advance for us to live our lives doing.” – Ephesians 2:10 (NCV)
The 4th purpose of life is to serve God by serving others.
Export (Mission):
God made me for a mission. Jesus: “In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world.” – John 17:18 (Mes)
The 5th purpose of life is to share God’s love with others.
