Every need in the world is an opportunity to share God’s love with those around us. That’s why, as a church family, we’re responding to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis, not by panicking or hiding out of fear, but by serving the people who are most vulnerable.  We have compiled a list of links, general information as well as some of the most frequently asked questions that you may have during this period. Feel free to email us at infohub@oakhill.org.za.  We are here to serve and encourage you as best we can during this time.

Every need in the world is an opportunity to share God’s love with those around us. That’s why, as a church family, we are responding to the COVID-19 crisis not by panicking or hiding in fear, but by serving the most vulnerable people.

We have to acknowledge that in this unprecedented time there is a need for practical support, but in a helpful and sustainable manner.  We have to give out of a sense of conviction and not out of guilt.

You can assist in two ways:

1. Donate to the COVID-19 Relief Fund. For more information please email : finances@oakhill.org.za
2. Send a Checkers voucher to a family.

If you want to help a family in need, we suggest the best way is to buy a Shoprite voucher. You can redeem this voucher at any Shoprite, Usave or Checkers.

How to buy a Checkers voucher:

Go to www.tickets.computicket.com

Please note:

  • You will need the recipient’s (of the voucher) valid cell phone. You can pay via credit card or EFT.
  • The person will receive the voucher via cell phone and they can redeem the voucher at the check-out counter.
  • The identity of the person who buys the voucher will remain anonymous to the person who receives it.

What can a voucher purchase?

Food and electricity at any Checkers, Shoprite or USave.

When giving, remember the following:

If you are in a small group and feel led to help another family in Oakhill, we suggest that you discuss it with your small group leader. All information will be treated anonymously.

How to help the Learn2Live Community Project:

Due to the lockdown we cannot train, mentor or support our ECD (Early Childhood Development) centres. We are regularly in contact with them, but we are concerned about the hardship the principals, their staff and their general communities are facing.

Women that start up ECD centres want to support their communities by providing a safe space for children. They are not only ECD principals, but they are also leaders and mothers that care about their community. Due to the closure of their schools, they are in desperate need of our help.

We want to support them, but because of the large amount of ECDs in our area, we want to do it in a transparent and sustainable way.

We want to support our community by:

  • Supplying ECDs in our immediate area with hygiene products and practical support.
  • Support families with food parcels.
  • To Partner with local health workers and to provide face masks.

We are a registered PBO and can issue Section 18A certificates.  If you require one, please email your details and proof of payment to arinak@oakhill.org.za

How can you get involved?

1.Make a face mask or face shields. (https://youtu.be/axrg8l0FwMw)
2.Donations of dry food, e.g.: oats, milk powder, red lentils, maize, mixed vegetables, sunflower oil, yeast, cake flour, soya mince, peanut butter, brown sugar, pasta, pilchards, gravy powder, samp and beans.
3.Donations of the following cleaning material: hand sanitisers (preferably small bottles we can give directly to school), Milton’s sterilising products, and bars of soap.

Where to drop off your contribution?

You can drop off these products or face masks/shields twice a week: on a Wednesday at 14:00 – 16:00 and Friday 10:00-12:00 at Sioux Spur, Glen Garry. It will be a drop-and-go system, with all the necessary safety measures in place.

Good day Oakhill Family,

As we all know, President Ramaphosa addressed the nation last Sunday and announced strict procedures regarding the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in South Africa. Oakhill church will do all we can to comply with the preventative measures prescribed to protect the health of our members and staff.

First, let’s look at Romans 5:3-5 in The Passion Translation:

But that’s not all! Even in times of trouble we have a joyful confidence, knowing that our pressures will develop in us patient endurance. And patient endurance will refine our character, and proven character leads us back to hope. And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy, because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us!”

We pray and declare over you that everything we face right now will be to our benefit, and that the hope we reap in these troubled times is not a disappointing fantasy but the gateway to experience and celebrate God’s endless love. We truly believe amazing testimonies are being written in the spirit that will impact future generations.

If we look back at all the challenging times in our country, e.g. political unrest, corruption, drought and load-shedding we have to admit God has carried us through so much already. This should encourage us to know He is our ever-present help in times of need. Let’s invite His presence into our storms to quiet them with His peace that surpasses all understanding.

We are also so blessed to have each other in times like these, and there is an even bigger conviction to press into our relationships like never before. To be responsible, we know we have to limit social and physical contact, but always remember we are a spiritual family and it is His Spirit that keeps us together.

To help us navigate this interesting time, we (Louis & Lizette) will host a special live stream event on Wednesday, 18 March 2020 at 7pm where we will share more information. You can watch the re-bradcast here

In the meantime, kindly find below some important changes to Oakhill’s operations during this time:

Sunday Services

From this coming Sunday, we will move our celebration services from a physical location to our online platform. Meaning, rather than attending church, you can stream all of our Sunday services (9am and 6pm) on the Oakhill app from the safety of your home. If you don’t have the app, remember to download it, as this will be our reality for the foreseeable future. We will notify you again when this changes. To stream the services you can either download the Oakhill app or you can visit http://tv.oakhill.org.za/

To give tithes and offerings you are welcome to use SnapScan/Zapper/Payfast by clicking here, or you can visit our website at www.oakhill.org.za. For EFT payments you can contact our church office directly at finances@oakhill.org.za.

Small Groups

We are working on communication strategies and suggestions for our small groups environment to transition over to WhatsApp or similar platforms like Zoom or Skype. We will guide our small group’s hosts and leaders to keep communication going and to facilitate relationship-building by other means.

It is our heart to continue communicating with you, especially during this time. We will use our online platforms (e.g. Oakhill app and emails) to communicate and encourage you as much as we can.

Our office will run electronically and staff will work from home. We will collaborate via conference calls. We advise you to contact us either via email (infohub@oakhill.org.za) during our normal office hours Monday – Thursday from 8am – 4pm.

We need to support each other more than ever. Let’s extend that spirit of love and care to our family and people out there. As this situation continues to develop, we believe we will see the needs presented to us and address them accordingly. Our hope is to encourage and support you all first and foremost with the truth of the Word and God’s everlasting love. Let’s hold on to our faith and intercede as Holy Spirit leads us like never before.

Kindest regards

Louis & Lizette du Piesanie and Elders
